Me and My Love for Cooking!

I'm Louise, an everyday cook - who happens to be a MasterChef finalist, just thought I'd drop that in - I love being in the kitchen, tinkering with ingredients, and experimenting with new recipes. Cooking is my love language; it’s one way I show my love to people.  If you're in my life, I'm probably cooking something for you!

I grew up on the island of Taiwan with my twin sister, LULU. My favourite childhood memories were spent watching my grandfather cook feasts in his tiny brick kitchen. I spent the first 20 years of my adult life studying and climbing the corporate ladder in the US and Southeast Asia. Along the way, I fell in love and married Bharat, who hails from the other side of Asia, India.

Now, I'm based in Singapore, the food capital of the East. I'm a mother of two active boys, an entrepreneur, a wife, a daughter, and the list goes on….. But one thing that persists from those childhood days is my love for cooking and for dishing up my love on a plate.

The Birth of Love on a Plate:

Love on a Plate is about bringing the exploration of different food cultures and cooking to you through various social media platforms. All the content is shot either at my house or during my travels. I cook for my family, I cook to entertain, and I cook to create experiences. There are no abalones, no foie gras, just ingredients that are easily sourced wherever I am. I believe in food that's big on taste and small on effort. It's a handful of ingredients and a few simple steps—that's it. Come join my culinary exploration, and I hope you too are inspired to cook SOMETHING for someone you love wherever you are!"

Entrepreneur & MasterChef Finalist:

In 2020, life took a turn; like it did for many of us. I quit my job at a food company and embarked on an entrepreneurial journey. I started the Jiayo brand, with a focus on making healthy, delicious and fun food more accessible. Jiayo began by making healthy snacks and later developed into cooking classes. I developed, and still offer, a series of popular kids and helper cooking classes.

Life took another twist in 2023 when I participated in MasterChef Singapore, competing with some of Singapore's best home cooks. On the show, I showcased dozens of dishes that were a culmination of my passion for healthy, great-tasting food and my expertise in cultures, specifically Taiwanese, Indian, and South East Asian, honed through years of exploration in my kitchen. I was one of the top finalists on the show. (Link to MasterChef on YouTube)
